I was lingering. I knew it, but I just couldn’t help it. Passerby’s came and went, I could hear the watch in my head ticking methodically, but none of that deterred me from my current task of picking up and turning round and round each plastic container of strawberries until I found the best one from the pyramid of plastic baskets. Whew! Done, I sighed as I placed the winning container in my shopping cart and slowly crept a few feet forward, only to stop again – in front of the avocados!
I get lots of stares in front of the produce section at the grocery store each week, but I’m determined to get the very best my frugal grocery budget money will buy!
Have you been known to test the fruit?
You know, we’re also called to “test the fruit” in our lives and in those around us.
Read Ezekiel 18:19-32.
One scenario from these verses is of a righteous person turning to a life of sin. “His former, apparent righteousness was not genuine and God did not remember it as a valid expression of faith.” (John MacArthur Study Bible Notes)
Ezekiel 18:32 says, “…Turn and live…”
Read Malachi 3.
Malachi 3:7 says, “…Return to me and I will return to You…”
Test the fruit. 1 John 4:7 gives a good indicator of a life fresh in the faith.
“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.”

Then test the fruit in your life. Do you demonstrate those qualities, especially when squeezed?
